MOST weekends I'm busy packing up and posting out CDs for my new Record Club.
It's a £1 monthly subscription and you get a CD, featuring three tracks.
I signed to SonyBMG about four years ago and after releasing just one single I've been waiting for them to release more. In that time I recorded more than a hundred with a really good producer but they weren't getting to see the light of day. I was signed to the label all that time but I recently decided to leave and start releasing them myself. They offered me another extension to the contract but I said no because it was agonising not to get my tunes out there.
I built up a database of 30,000 people which the label allowed me to have. And so far it's been amazing how many of them have signed up for the Record Club.
I sent the first one out last weekend, Record Club Volume 1. So my weekends are busy getting ready for the next one.
I was in Surrey this week doing some more recording with my producer. And I also recorded a video for Burberry. I'd done a bit of modelling for them before and the boss of Burberry, a guy called Christopher Bailey, rang up my manager and asked if I'd do it. He'd seen a video we'd made for a song called My Doll. And he wanted to remake it for a campaign they've got going called Burberry Acoustic, where they're showcasing new music talent. People like General Fiasco, Sunshine Underground and One Night Only have done it.
So, as well as recording, this week I was stood in a churchyard with a guitar being filmed for a video. Yes, I was wearing Burberry.
I'm busier than ever.
I've been listening to a lot of Sarah McLachlan, who is a Canadian acoustic rock singer.
I saw a gig last week in Surrey but it wasn't anyone well known. And I did see an Indian R&B singer called Sonna Rele, who was really good. Like me, she recently walked away from a major label and is finding a new way of releasing her music. Her voice is like Alicia Keys or Beyoncé and she plays guitar and piano really well.
I saw Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at Rock City the other night because my brother is a big fan. They were quite good but there was a bit of a hiccup with the sound.
The last film I saw at the cinema was Burke and Hare, with Simon Pegg but at home, when I sit down with my dad to watch a DVD, it'll be something like Zulu, a really long film where you have to make camp for the duration.
I'm currently reading Patrick O'Brian's The Mauritius Command, which is a historical novel. I read quite a lot of historical fiction, particularly set in the Napoleonic times.
I like the occasional meal in Zizzi, the pizza place or French Living. I'm learning to cook, sort of. I'm like a culinary bird that's not yet fully-fledged.
I can't drive so I keep fit by walking everywhere.
